Welcome to Sri Lanka. Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your Overa Tours chauffeur-guide and transferred to your coastal hotel in Negombo. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure on the beach, followed by an evening pre-dinner orientation meeting with your cycling guides to review routes, fit bicycles, and prepare for the journey ahead.
After breakfast, begin cycling out from Negombo toward the central hill capital of Kandy. Ride along scenic backroads showcasing historic colonial churches and lively rural communities. Cycle approximately 3 to 4 hours based on your preference before racking the bikes for the vehicle transfer into Kandy, with options to visit Pinnawala and the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Mount your bicycles for a 3 to 4-hour morning ride heading north through the foothills toward the Cultural Triangle. Rack up the bikes for the transfer to Sigiriya, pausing en route to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Dambulla Cave Temple, renowned for its ancient rock-hewn Buddha statues and murals, with an optional visit to Nalanda Gedige. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
Begin the morning with a refreshing cycle ride through rural pathways surrounding the base of the dramatic Sigiriya citadel. Afterward, climb the iconic 5th-century Sigiriya Rock Fortress built by King Kasyapa, taking in the world-famous water gardens, ancient frescoes, and panoramic views from the summit plateau. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
Pedal along picturesque trails toward Habarana, passing local farming villages and dry-zone wetlands. In the afternoon, take a 4x4 wildlife safari through Minneriya National Park, situated along a vital elephant corridor, to witness wild elephant herds gathering on the grassy shores of the ancient Minneriya Reservoir. Overnight stay in Habarana.
Transfer from Habarana to Anuradhapura, the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka. Spend 3 to 4 hours cycling through the vast archaeological park, riding alongside the peaceful waters of Tissawewa reservoir and admiring monumental stupas including Ruvanvelisaya, Jetavanaramaya, and the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi tree. Overnight stay in Anuradhapura.
Cycle approximately 3 to 4 hours heading west from the ancient kingdom toward the coastal province of Puttalam. Ride past rural salt pans, palm groves, and fringes of the Puttalam Lagoon before transferring the final distance to your beach resort on the scenic Kalpitiya peninsula. Overnight stay in Kalpitiya.
Spend an unhurried day of pure relaxation on the quiet golden sands of Kalpitiya beach. Lounge by the ocean waters, watch local kitesurfers glide across the lagoon, or take an optional coastal boat excursion before enjoying your final dinner under the palms. Overnight stay in Kalpitiya.
After breakfast, enjoy a final stroll along the beach before your private chauffeur-guide transfers you comfortably along the highway back to Bandaranaike International Airport in time for your onward flight, concluding a memorable 9-day cycling adventure with Overa Tours.
